A group led by scientists at Baylor College of Medicine in partnership with Medterra CBD performed the first scientific studies to evaluate the potential therapeutic impacts of cannabidiol (CBD) for arthritic pain in pet dogs, and the outcomes could blaze a trail to studying its impact in humans. In the present study, Halpert and his associates first measured the result of CBD on immune reactions related to arthritis, both in human and murine cells grown in the lab and in mouse models. The 20 client-owned canines enrolled in the study were seen at Sunset Animal Medical Facility in Houston. The dog owners were arbitrarily provided with identical unknown medication bottles that contained CBD, liposomal CBD, or a placebo. Neither the owners nor the vet understood which treatment each pet received.
After 4 weeks of everyday treatment, owners and veterinarians reported on the condition of the canines, whether they observed changes in the animals’ level of pain, such as changes associated with running or gait. The canines’ cell blood count and blood signs of liver and kidney function also were assessed prior to and after the 4 weeks of treatment.
” We discovered motivating results,” Halpert said. “9 of the 10 pets on CBD showed benefits, which stayed for two weeks after the treatment stopped. We did not discover alterations in the blood markers we measured, suggesting that, under the conditions of our study, the treatment appears to be safe.”.
